3rd Week in Oviedo

Our third week was full of activities: besides our classes, we played some volleyball and basketball. Not only did we dance some more salsa, but we also started learning tango!

We also experienced Spanish culture at San Juan’s festivity on the night of June 23rd.

This week we traveled to Gijon and visited the Roman  Thermae, the aquarium and spent some time at the beach to take advantage of the nice weather.

Auditions were also performed for our farewell party. Here there are some videos for the different roles that will be played.

In preparation for our official t-shirt we were voting for the best drawing.  It was a tough decision, but we managed to choose one of the four by voting with our eyes closed.

2nd Week in Oviedo!

This second week we took it up another notch: we added some sports and physical activities into the mixing:  Frisbee and soccer.  However we also learned how to salsa and enjoyed it very much. So who says now that we can’t dance? Yes, we can!

Our trip to Santa Maria de Naranco shows Asturias’ capricious moody weather.  The rain came with us all along on Wednesday.  However, history is stronger than water and we ended up taking the bus to Naranco to visit an ancient royal residence/church (Santa Maria del Naranco) and another church close by (San Miguel de Lillo).

We even had some time to spend waiting for the bus to go back to Oviedo and started rehearsing Asturias’ anthem. We do have some artists in the group!

Our second excursion took us to Los Lagos Enol and Ercina. There we found some mountains, cows and beautiful landscapes and a cider museum.

Our first week in Oviedo!

Our students have already spent a week in Oviedo. Everyone is fine and learning a lot (including professors). We had some games for orientation in which we got to know each other. We played “scavenger hunt” and “el ciempies” (the centipede) and managed to finish the latter right on time…

for lunch! Yes, some of us were reluctant to try new food at first, but then we started to enjoy every bite. Who says that people don’t eat fruit anymore these days?

Unfortunately we don’t like fruit all the time. That’s why we thought we deserved some ice cream.

We had time to explore the city as well. An unexpected sun helped us take advantage of the afternoon in Oviedo.  We visited the old Oviedo, the Cathedral, the market (El Fontan) and other well-known places.

And, of course, there’s no way we could miss Emily’s birthday!

All students and on-site coordinators made it to Oviedo! We arrived safe and sound and all students are with their host families now. This week will be very intense, but the rewards thereof are worth the effort. Time to rest from a long trip and more to come soon. :-)
